Five lucky winners have received £5,000 plus a one-to-one masterclass as part of a campaign by Tate & Lyle to make their Baking Dreams come true.
Last year Tate & Lyle offered budding bakers the chance to enter their Baking Dreams competition to realise their own baking dream, whether it was to set up a local cake stall or start an online cupcake business. As well as £5,000 to help make their baking dreams come true, the five lucky Baking Dreams winners each received a private masterclass with Resident Tutor and UK Chocolate Master 2006–2010, Mark Tilling, at Squires Kitchen International School in Farnham, Surrey.
In February, Cakes & Sugarcraft contributor Mark held a one-to-one session with first winner, Marjorie, a keen jam-maker who won the title of World Jampion at the 2013 Jampionships. Her baking dream is to write a cookbook to show how easy it is to bake with jams, marmalades and fruit with a selection of everyday easy-bake recipes.
Mark took Marjorie through the process of making a delicious chocolate cake to fill with her homemade jams as well as showing her how to cover and decorate the cake with a range of chocolate decorations. Marjorie also had the chance to try her hand at making delicate French macaroons.
Marjorie hopes in the future to open a small dedicated Jammy cookery school at her home in Shropshire. For now you can find recipes, hints and tips on her Facebook page, One Jammy Lady.
