Welcome to Bake & Decorate magazine, Cakes & Sugarcraft's sister title. In this issue we focus on the power of baking to bring people together, whether it’s a special celebration with friends and family, a coffee morning, a fundraiser or a bake off at work. What better reason to get baking?
From home cooks to top pastry chefs, our love of baking so often starts as a child. Our tribute to family baking is followed by some fantastic tried-and-tested recipes which have been handed down through the generations. We have to give a special mention to Granny Nelly’s date loaf with salted caramel sauce, which was so popular in the Bake & Decorate office that it disappeared within seconds. It really is a must-try and shows how updating a family recipe with a contemporary twist can create a new classic.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion then we have plenty of ideas to impress your guests, from a naked ombré layer cake with edible flowers to a woodland party dessert table. You’ll see plenty of handy guides to more sugarcraft essentials throughout the magazine; the spectacular wreath of bright buttercream flowers on our front cover cake is easy to achieve once you know how. And if you’re looking for free-from recipes then you’ll find a gorgeous, fat-free, flourless Moroccan orange and almond cake as well as some treats which are low in processed sugar.
There will be plenty of opportunities in the coming months to get baking for a good cause. Find details on charity fundraising events taking place as well as recommended recipes for fundraising including mini cherry Bakewells, moustache cookies on sticks and even mini cupcake bras.
Don’t forget to share your creations – we’d love to see them! Post them on Facebook or Twitter and tag @sugarcraftmag for the chance to see your bakes in print.
